STOP the FTAA, April 2005

Our Number-One Defense: STOP CAFTA!

The Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) is an essential building block towards the eventual passage of the FTAA. Stopping CAFTA is an opportunity to seriously derail the FTAA. Fortunately, there is already stiff resistance to CAFTA in the House, but the administration is working hard to twist arms (see April Links for CAFTA and the FTAA, below).

Both sides are predicting a close vote, but time is running out!  Legislative hearings could begin as soon as April 13, 2005. Act now by logging on to www.stopcafta.com , contacting Congress, and informing your fellow Americans that our jobs, our communities and are way of life are at risk.

CAFTA: Exporting American Jobs and Industry  (NEW!)
William Norman Grigg explains that CAFTA, a key installment of the Bush administration’s planned “EU of the Americas,” faces mounting opposition from the public and Congress. Reprints of this article will be available for order on April 12, 2005 for use in educating others.

CAFTA Road Show Rolls On

The "CAFTA Road Show," organized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and featuring several Central American ambassadors, will visit South Florida in April, perhaps around the middle of the month. The visit will be part of a nationwide tour by the ambassadors to promote congressional approval of the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). Other recent stops included Atlanta March 21, Washington D.C. March 15, and Silicon Valley March 9.
